The 2022 AMAA Award was held  in Nigeria. The Congolese gangster movie, Viva Riva! directed by Djo Tunda wa Munga wins 6 Awards at the African Movie Academy Awards last night including Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

The film has been nominated in 12 categories including Best Director and Best Film. Viva Riva! also scooped the Best Feature Film Award at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday 26th February.

This follows the film’s recent success at major festivals such as Berlin and Toronto. The film screened in Berlin in February to sold out houses and rave reviews in industry mags Variety and Hollywood Reporter. Viva Riva! has sold to USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. There are sales pending with Belgium, France and Germany. The film opens in cinemas in the United Kingdom on 27 May, followed by the USA release.

The producers are working on plans to release the film across Africa.

The film is written and directed by Djo Tunda wa Munga, Produced by Boris van Gils, Michael Goldberg, Djo Tunda wa Munga, Co-produced by Steven Markovitz. Starring Manie Malone, Patsha Bay, Hoji Fortuna. The film was shot on location in Kinshasa. World Sales are handled by Beta Cinema.
